How to Achieve the Ultimate Sauna Experience

Sauna sessions help promote  and muscle recovery, but the way you prepare for and use the sauna is as vital as the benefits you gain from it. Similar to the warm-up and cool-down required for exercise, you must follow some necessary steps to achieve the ultimate sauna experience.

The Warm-Up

The first thing to do is hydrate! Drink a minimum of 250ml water before your sauna session, as the heat will cause an increase in core body temperature.

Preheat the sauna for 45–60 minutes. A typical sauna session ranges between 125°F and 135°F degrees. Take a clean towel and place it on the bench to absorb the sweat, and keep an extra towel around to wipe your face during the session.

During The Sauna Session

When the temperature reaches at least 100°F, enter your sauna. Note that the temperature will continue to rise as you enjoy the sauna. The optimal sauna temperature is 100°F to 135°F. Between these temperature ranges, the heaters provide the optimal concentration of infrared wavelengths. This brings you many health benefits, including detoxification, pain relief, skin purification, weight loss, and stress relief.

Next, check the time. Sauna therapy must be a progressive treatment; adjust the session length based on your body’s needs. You might want to start slow if you’re new to saunas.

Begin with short 15–20 minute sessions every other day. You should be able to gradually increase your time and build up to a typical 40-minute session in the optimal temperature range. It's important to listen to your body and adjust your session based on what it’s telling you.

Similar to exercise and eating healthy, sauna use takes time and consistency to see results. There are chances that you may not even sweat the first few times you use the sauna. However, know that sweating will increase over time, leaving you feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and renewed.

You can even add little entertainment during your sweat session by catching up on your favorite Netflix show or listening to music via the Bluetooth sound system.

The Cool-Down

Once you’re done, wait for your body to dry off and cool down naturally. It's important to wait at least 30 minutes after your sauna session before taking a refreshing shower. Rehydrate with 24 oz. of water or an electrolyte drink.
